TUE 12/31: Major Averages Pull Back to Their 10-Day – New WatchList Stock Added

9:15 AM – MORNING MARKET UPDATE & WATCH LIST

[dropcap]Y[/dropcap]esterday was a relatively severe down day compared to what we’ve been used to. The major averages finished near their session lows. The Dow ended down -183 points, the S&P 500 off -19, and the Nasdaq, under pressure from technology, lost -61 points.

All three of the major indexes pulled back to their respective 10-day moving average. We’ll see if this short-term support holds today.

This morning, U.S. stock futures point modestly higher. Stocks in Europe and Asia were mixed. Markets in Hong Kong and Japan were closed for their New Year’s.

The S&P Case-Shiller Home Price Index is out at 9:00 AM.

U.S. consumer confidence numbers for December will be published at 10:00 AM.

The exchanges are closed tomorrow. Trading resumes Thursday 9:30 AM, 2020.
